On Wednesday, September 26, we headed up to The Britannia Mining Museum, just south of Squamish. (So many of us have driven by countless times, but never actually been inside!)
We learned not only about the history of the mine, but about the hardships of being a miner, and what it was actually like to live and work in Britannia.
We also got an upclose look at the environmental devastation that occured both during the mines operation and in the 30 years after the mine closed. We toured the EPCOR water-treatment plant and saw how they care controlling the mineral and chemical pollution in the area.
All in all, a fabulous day away from school. A HUGE "thank you" to Nicole and Nicole for volunteering their day, and of course to the lovely and talented Ms. Nordman for organizing the whole trip!
